Sándor Szabolcs

Born on March 30, 1973, in Budapest.

Conductor, répétiteur, pianist.

He began his musical studies on the piano at the age of 5. His first stage performance was at the age of 7, and he subsequently appeared on stages in Budapest and across Hungary (radio, cultural centers, local competitions in Budapest). In 1991, he graduated from Béla Bartók Conservatory in Budapest as a piano student under Katalin Schweitzer.

In 1996, he earned his diploma (summa cum laude) from Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, with Dénes Várjon as his teacher. After obtaining his chamber music diploma, he continued his studies in répétiteur training and graduated in 1998 at the Academy's main hall after combined years of study. His teachers included Emmi Varasdy, József Patkó, György Vashegyi, László Tihanyi, and József Sári.

In 2007, he completed his studies in conducting at the Accademia Musicale Pescarese in Maestro Donato Renzetti's class. He has participated in numerous international conducting masterclasses with Yuri Simonov, Zoltán Peskó, Daniele Gatti, Aldo Ceccato, and Dario Lucantoni.

In 2006, he won third prize at the International Opera Conductor Competition in Orvieto for conducting Puccini's La Bohème. In 2008, he was awarded the Pless László Prize by the Hungarian State Opera House.

Since July 1, 2023, he has been the Musical Director of the Csokonai National Theatre in Debrecen.
