A unique international cultural experience in Debrecen, at the Csokonai Fórum: as part of their European tour, the Kazakh Turan ensemble will perform exclusively in Debrecen!
Founded in 2008 by musicians from the Kazakh National Conservatory, the internationally renowned Turan Ensemble’s music is based on elements of Kazakh folk music: the five members of the ensemble – Maksat Medeubek, Serik Nurmoldaev, Bauyrzhan Bekmukhanbetov, Erzighit Aliev and Zhantu Dadabaev – are all masters of more than 30 traditional folk instruments, and they also enrich their compositions with traditional throat singing. However, the artists, who describe their own music as ethno-folk, do not focus solely on preserving tradition: despite their classical instrumentation, they cast it into new forms and push the boundaries of the region’s folk music.
The ensemble has previously performed at such renowned venues as Carnegie Hall in New York, the Kennedy Center in Washington, Zellerbach Hall in Los Angeles, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès in Cannes, the Salle Cortot in Paris, the Moscow Conservatory Concert Hall, and the Mariinsky Theatre Concert Hall. They are now embarking on a five-stop European tour, which will take them to Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Albania, and also Debrecen.
This cultural project is being implemented in cooperation with the diplomatic missions of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
