The Jungle Book

zenés, kalandos játék

Planned premiere: 20 March 2026
Csokonai Theatre

Who would have thought that Rudyard Kipling’s famous novel about a boy raised in the jungle was written in the late 19th century, in 1894? Its timeless message and enduring relevance are proven by the fact that this story has since been adapted for both cartoons (see Wolfgang Reitherman’s famous production), as well as both domestic and foreign plays. After all, Mowgli, who was abandoned in the jungle as a child, and his friends and foes – for example, Bagheera, the wise panther, and Shere Khan, the tiger – are not primarily humans or animals, but rather the symbolic representations of the irreconcilable opposition of “own” and “other”, “familiar” and “foreign” or their mutual acceptance based on compromise and respect. Everyone is fighting for their own truth and justice, yet this adaptation of the famous story in Debrecen, relying on the wonderful rendition of László Dés and Péter Geszti, proves that instead of violence or the unconditional desire to win, only tender feelings and emotions are truly capable of resolving all forms of tension.
