In Magda Szabó’s enchanting fairytale, a dark sky looms over the kingdom of Queen Iris: the wizard Aterpater, who brews magical potions, is furious because Queen Iris has rejected him. The resolution of the conflict falls on Iris’s son, Lala, yet he has disappeared again… And to make matters worse, he took the queen’s scepter with him, without which she cannot attend the state council. Meanwhile, it transpires that Lala has a human heart, which is why he longs to be in the land of humans and is behaving so oddly. His disappearance nearly causes irreversible trouble for Fairyland…
