Csokonai Fórum, Latinovits Zoltán Stage
opera in one act
Directed by UNITER Award-winning Zakariás Zalán, a native of Transylvania, and realized under the artistic direction of Lóránt Bocskor-Salló, this opera production seeks to explore, reveal, and interpret the distinctive characteristics of the male and female psyche as independent entities, as well as the complex relationship between them. Created in honor of the 140th anniversary of the composer’s birth, the production stars mezzo-soprano Viktória Mester, recipient of the Hungarian Silver Cross of Merit, and Liszt Award-winning baritone Levente Molnár. The symbolism of male-female symbiosis is further deepened by the fact that the soloists’ musical accompaniment is performed by a male and a female musician, each playing a different instrument. The uniqueness of the piece lies in its extraordinary visual world: instead of traditional stage sets, the creators have brought to life a striking visual language built on the colors and symbols defined by the composer, serving and shaping the musical texture into a unified whole. The interplay between dream and reality, and the multi-layered duality, are intensified visually as the singing performers on stage also appear projected on the screens during certain scenes.
