Miss Dorothy, as we say these days, has been young for a long time. And has been single for just as long. But hope dies last – at every carnival ball, she hopes to find a partner. The world – especially men’s – is cruel: she becomes the target of mocking and humiliation. But she doesn’t suffer in silence any longer: together with her companions, she seeks revenge against the men. Thus, the carnival ball, which starts peacefully, turns into a battlefield. Their goal: to destroy the Matrikula, i.e. the register documenting the shame of their singleness. Or perhaps, something much more: a world in which no woman has to be ashamed of her lifestyle. All these tensions are boiling in the crazy and spectacular atmosphere of a carnival ball, with lots of laughter, set in Debrecen for the sake of the memory of the play’s author, Mihály Csokonai Vitéz, the namesake of our theater, our most famous poet from Debrecen, whose 250th birthday we celebrated with this premiere.
