The historic literary masterwork of the 19th century, Dostoyevsky’s Demons returns to the stage of Csokonai National Theatre once again! An opportunity to experience one of the defining theatre experiences of the 2023/24 season.

The adaptation of Dostoyevsky’s legendary work has been a crucial part of the programme of Csokonai National Theatre since it’s premiere in April 2024. The critically acclaimed show now returns with accompanying English subtitles – giving an opportunity to everyone to experience the dark and intricate story of Demons.

Macedonian director Dejan Projkovski’s aims to explore the human soul, much like the author’s own work. Projkovski is intrigued by the question of how, just as sacred music can distinguish the angelic from the demonic by a quarter tone, plucking certain strings within a person can turn them from an “angel” into a “demon.” He investigates how a movement, initially aimed at improving society, could lead its participants to become bloodthirsty killers, monstrous beings that devour both themselves and their ideals through the misinterpretation of the guiding ideologies.

Do not miss out on the English-subtitled showing of F. M. Dostoyevsky’s Demons on 31st January! Tickets and further information available HERE.
